Henriëtte Amalia vof Anhalt-Dessau
Henriette Amalia’s mother was Henriette Catharina, daughter of Frederik Hendrik (Frederick Henry). Her father was Johan George II of Anhalt-Dessau. Henriette Amalia married her cousin Hendrik (Henry) Casimir II, stadtholder of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe.
Hendrik Casimir was often in conflict with his cousin, King-Stadtholder Willem III of Orange. Henriette Amalia tried to mediate, even travelling to The Hague to hold talks with Willem. Eventually, she managed to improve relations between the two men.
When her husband died Henriette Amalia became regent until her son Johan Willem Friso (John William Friso) reached the age of majority. When King-Stadtholder Willem III died some years later, Johan Willem Friso was appointed as his heir, claims to the title also came from Prussia and England. Henriette Amalia spent years securing the inheritance while acting as regent for her son.
Henriette Amalia spent the final years of her life at Oranienstein Palace in Dietz (Germany), that she inherited from her mother-in-law Albertine Agnes.
