Queens by Andy Warhol

From October 12, 2024

Exhibition Queens at Paleis Het Loo

The colorful pop art series Reigning Queens consists of screen prints of four iconic queens. The series Reigning Queens was made by Andy Warhol in 1985.

The 'royal edition' consists of sixteen screen prints with diamond dust. This special edition is part of the collection of Paleis Het Loo. This is the last time the iconic series can be viewed for at least 5 years. Due to the fragility of the material, the collection will be stored away after the exhibition.

This edition of Reigning Queens consists of four colorful portraits of former Queen Beatrix. In addition to the Dutch queen, it also portrays Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Ntfombi Twala of eSwatini, formerly Swaziland. These four women were the only reigning queens in the world at the time Andy Warhol created the portraits.

Queens is an exhibition about queens, art and contemporary perspective. The exhibition offers a special opportunity to admire both art and royal history.

Visit this unique pop art series from October 12, 2024 to January 1, 2025.
