Intro

Introduction in the basement of the palace

Journey through Time
When you enter the palace you will find yourself in the basement, where you can watch an introductory film explaining how Paleis Het Loo has changed over the course of its 335-year history. Why did stadtholder Willem and Mary build their new palace here? And why did they have such major extensions added after just a few years? Which other members of the Dutch royal family have lived here? And did they enjoy living at Paleis Het Loo? The movie lasts about 5 minutes.

Traces of the past

Traces of the Past
After the film, visit the Traces of the Past exhibit, where you will not find priceless paintings and furniture, but objects like beer mugs and servants’ bells. There are also reminders of the palace during the Second World War. Plus necklaces and bowls that are over 1500 years old. Things that belonged to people who lived in this spot long before the palace was built.

Tip: If you’ve reserved a time slot for the palace, come to the basement 15 minutes earlier so you have time to watch the introductory film.
