Wander Day: Sensing Shared Planetary Conditions
A day-long program invites visitors to experience Paleis Het Loo through breathing, listening, scent, and more-than-human perspectives. Through conversations, a listening walk, a lecture, and a guided scent experience, participants explore connections between people, nature, history, and heritage, and reflect on new ways of living together within a shared planet.

13:00–13:10 - BerceauWelcome words by (Annette de Vries, Renske Ek, Anna Bitkina) to outline the main theme and overall program for the Wander Day.
Discussion: Who has the Right to Breath?
13:10-13:50 - BerceauA conversation between artist Rob Voerman and political philosopher Sophie van Balen, who explores what it means to live as a breathing being in times of climate change and air pollution. The discussion will be moderated by Renske Ek, Garden Curator at Paleis Het Loo. The discussion will be conducted in Dutch.
Workshop: Acoustic Wandering with Jan Christian Schulz
14:00–14:40 - Queen's GardenDuring this participatory listening walk, visitors are invited to experience the grounds of Paleis Het Loo through sound. Moving through different locations in the gardens, we will attune to birds, insects, wind, water, and human-made sounds, while reflecting on how we perceive and connect with our surroundings through senses and technologies.
Lecture: An Animal History of Mercantile Capitalism by Terike Haapoja
14:50–15:30 - BovenlokaalIn this lecture, Terike Haapoja discusses the book: Foreign Beasts and Other Rarities and her research into the multispecies history of the Dutch East and West India Companies.
Experience: Seeking Diana with Marianna Maruyama
15:35–16:15 - Bovenlokaal and grand foyerHow many representations of Diana, Roman goddess of the hunt, can you find at Paleis Het Loo? This self-directed quest begins with a guided scent experience by artist, writer, and perfumer Marianna Maruyama.
Closing & Drinks
16:20–17:00 - Restaurant balzaal (Ballroom)Relax, chat, and wrap up the afternoon together with refreshments in Restaurant balzaal. Come wander with us, and experience heritage in a whole new way.
